Department of Public Health Dentistry
Department of Public Health Dentistry focuses on patient centered practice, patient education, and community - based disease prevention and oral health promotional activities. The department takes pride in being the only department which forms the first level of contact with the community.
The department also believes in prevention is better than cure and functions to contribute in student training and comprehensive patient care. The department encourages students to develop the skill of identifying health problems, preventing and promoting oral health through community camps.
The department has exclusive urban centers at SN Medical College and Ayurvedic Medical College & rural centers at Shirur and Gaddankeri with the mission to serve the under privileged.
The department regularly conducts dental health check- ups, outreach programs, screening, health education and treatment camps in order to serve the vulnerable groups. The department collaborates with Governmental and Non- Governmental organizations for conducting extensive outreach activities.
The department has the credit of a well- equipped mobile dental clinic that travels to even remote locations and serve rural communities. The department is also supplemented with a museum with audio- visual aids and plethora of educative models for health education purpose.
A Tobacco Cessation Center (TCC), was set-up in the Department of Public Health dentistry in the year 2018. The new facility plays a crucial role in helping habitual smokers and tobacco chewers to quit their habit.
